The number of Black people you see on TV playing sports, singing, and being comedians is an exaggeration of the number of Black people in America. It’s an exaggeration promulgated by the entertainment industry.
The stereotype has usurped reality.
Most people don’t know history.
They get the TV/movie version, which has been watered down to appeal to the director, producer, and the audience they are trying to capture.
The stereotype is reinforced over time without a counterpoint. It has become a reality for the majority.
In time, a different viewpoint arises. By then, there is enough doubt to challenge the validity of what is true.
And people move on and believe whatever is convenient
