My definition of a hypocrite is someone who looks down negatively on the actions of others and they themselves are doing the same thing.
The funny thing about us hypocrites is that we don’t even realize we are hypocrites. We see clearly the actions of others while we are blind to our own.
It’s so easy to slide into hypocrisy. All you need is a critical thought and a negative judgment on someone’s actions. Add in some righteous indignation. Sprinkle in some haughtiness and disdain, for good measure.
And don’t forget the cherry on top: the heir of superiority.
“How dare they!”, I exclaim, not realizing that I had done the very same thing. “But those were different circumstances”, I rationalize within myself when it comes to my remembrance. My excuse is a justification for MY actions but THEIR actions don’t have an excuse.
I have just stepped into the twilight zone of hypocrisy. It’s so easy to do. And we do it all the time.
